With just over a week to go, the entries for the Amateur UK Open are really exciting.
Although many participants are involved in the main UK Open, the fact that players have entered the Amateur event is totally amazing.
We highlighted the first overseas player to sign up, Koji Mourita from Japan. The self-proclaimed Japanese Efren. Here’s a few more to get excited about.
Alex Grigolyunovich. Only 8 years old, from Latvia. Easy pickings you might think, but he’s ranked 2nd in the Under 21’s in Latvia, got a silver medal on the Junior Euro Tour, and he’s even beaten Skyler Woodward, twice, in a one rack shootout. Proper little prodigy.
We also welcome 서서아 Seo Seoa who might be in the main UK Open, but will definitely move to the Amateur event should she not progress. Seoa needs no introduction, but is one of the top female players in the world and will be a genuine challenger should she drop into the Amateur event.
Next up is Paul Song. Well known to players in the US as he’s been described as a monster of a player, and taken many scalps before. He’s beaten Mika Immonen, and taken Tyler Styer to hill hill in recent years.
Without trying to exclude people from this list, we do want to highlight some UK based players. Alexandra Cunha was the first female entrant to the Amateur UK Open. She’s originally from Portugal has a number of titles on the Euro Tour and Eightball Federation.
Phil Wildman is well known for being the main man behind Total 9 Ball, one of the biggest pool events in the South of England, but perhaps more famous for his win against Albin Ouschan in last year’s UK Open. A beast of a player who is fuelled by steak power.
And So Shaw, a naturally talented player who has the capability to beat almost any player in the world, but is more well-known for being one of the most colourful characters in the game today, and likes a gamble gamble.
There’s a load more big names involved and we can’t wait to be welcoming them to the Amateur UK Open next week.
Still plenty of opportunities to get involved and test yourself against some of the strongest players outside of the top 128 WNT pros.
